Brazilian Pennywort (Hydrocotyle leucocephala) is an excellent medium-light plant that can grow in several ways – planted and floating. As a rooted plant, stems will grow up producing new lily-like leaves. Once the stem reaches the surface, or if the plant is left floating, the stem will grow horizontally and the leaves will float like lily pads. They make for excellent cover for fry such as livebearers and provide a natural way to dampen the light if you are looking for a low-light tank. It is recommended to keep this plant in a shallower tank as if it can’t reach the surface, it is likely to die.
