There areabout 250 species of small, primarily tropical marine fishes of the family Pomacentridae (order Perciformes) found in the Atlantic and Indo-Pacific oceans. Damselfishes are deep-bodied and usually have forked tails. They resemble the related cichlids and, like them, have a single nostril on each side of the head and have interrupted lateral lines. Damselfishes have two anal spines. Many species are brilliantly coloured, often in shades of red, orange, yellow, or blue; most do not exceed a length of about 15 cm

The average size of theDamselfish is around 10cm. Some species of damselfish are able to adapt well in an average aquarium, but others such as the white-spotted damselfish cannot. The diet of a damselfish can include small crustaceans, plankton, and algae.

Damsel FishHabitat:

Many species of Damselfish live in tropical coral reefs, and many of those are kept as marine aquarium pets. However, many also live in temperate climates, such as the damsels inhabiting the coast of southern California and northern pacific Mexican coast.

Damsel Fish Environment:

Any amount of light, dim to bright, seems OK. Natural or synthetic water makes no difference in terms of vitality or reproduction in captivity. A pH of 7.5 to 8.3 is favored; no ammonia, nitrite and as low a concentration of nitrates as practical is the rule as with most marines.
