The magnetic valve enables you to switch off the CO2 supply in the aquarium if necessary e.g. to regulate the pH or overnight.

Up to 50% of CO2 can be saved by switching of the supply at night as photosynthesis only takes place in daylight where plants absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen. At night or without light, the plants consume oxygen, therefore CO2 fertilisation would not be beneficial.

The magnetic valve operates with a 230V alternating current and works best when connected to the aquarium light timer. This allows the magnetic valve to be switched off at the same time as the lights.
