The Monkey Pot originates from the Lecythis elliptica, a large nut producing tree found in the Amazonian forests. This species is closely related to the tree that produces theOurico Pods!
The term Monkey Pot is said to derive from a monkey baiting technique where the empty nut is filled with fruit; a monkey would be able to insert its paw but unable to remove it.
