Natural Habitat:

Pterophyllum scalare originate from the soft, tannin-rich backwaters of the Amazon River basin. These slow-moving habitats are filled with submerged roots, leaf litter, and aquatic plantsconditions that can be recreated in the home aquarium with gentle flow and botanical elements.

Aquascaping:

Tank Mates and Compatibility:

Best kept with peaceful community fish that wont nip fins. Avoid small nano fish that may be seen as prey or aggressive species like Tiger Barbs. Good companions include Corydoras, larger Tetras, Rasboras, peaceful Gouramis, and Swordtails.

NOT Shrimp Safe:

Caution May eat very small or baby shrimp. Adult Neocaridina or Amano Shrimp may coexist in large, densely planted tanks.

Breeding:

Angelfish are monogamous, substrate-spawning fish that lay eggs on flat surfaces or broad leaves. Once a bonded pair forms, they can breed readily in a quiet, stable environment. Raising fry is possible in a separate tank with proper care.
